Sri Lanka donates USD 50,000.00 to the national disaster risk reduction and management council of the Philippines

Having witnessed the vast destruction caused to the human lives and properties by the recent natural disaster struck in the Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities in Mindanao Province of the Philippines on 17th December 2011, the Government of Sri Lanka decided to convey its utmost sympathy towards the affected people in the said province. H.E. Mahinda Rajapakse, President of Sri Lanka conveyed his condolences to H.E. Benigno S. Aqunio III on 21st December, 2011.

Further, President Mahinda Rajapakse of Sri Lanka directed his government to donate funds towards the relief programmes undertaken by the Philippine Government reflecting the friendship and solidarity between the people of the two countries. During a meeting held at the Department of Foreign Affairs on 25th January, 2012, H.E. Nawalage Bennet Cooray, Ambassador of Sri Lanka presented the cheque for USD 50,000.00 to Hon. Albert F. Del Rosario, Foreign secretary of the Philippines.
