
Pascoe satisfied with development in Mullaitivu
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - UN Under Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe expressed satisfaction of the development taking place in Mullaitivu following his visit to the area yesterday (16).
During his meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa following the visit, the Under Secretary-General promised to make available the vast political experience the UN possesses at Sri Lanka's disposal whenever it is needed.
He appreciated President Rajapaksa’s political acumen and ability to solve problems, and noted the success of his recent Indian visit.
“The two sides discussed IDPs, resettlement, Human rights and the joint statement issued last May after the UN Secretary General’s visit to the island,”. Pascoe will meet other political representatives including those from minority parties before departing for New York. He was scheduled to meet later in the evening with Ranil Wickremasinghe, Leader of the Opposition and Tian Alles, MP, Democratic National Alliance.
President Rajapaksa explained to the Under Secretary General that resettlement and infrastructure development in the North are being carried out speedily and efficiently.
Resident Coordinator of the UN in Sri Lanka, Neil Buhne, Ministers G.L. Peiris, Nimal Siripala De Silva and President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge too were present.
