Steps have been taken to invite all Buddhist Associations' representatives around the world to the International Buddhist Conference, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka parallel to the Themagul Festival. The coordinating work that is required to make the event a success will be carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Although the United Nations (UN) has proclaimed Vesak Day as an international holiday, it was discussed at the meeting to educate the international community on the importance of implementing this measure practically. The committee also informed the Prime Minister that a programme should be implemented to reclaim the local Buddhist relics that were taken out of the country. The organisational work performed at the divisional level will make it easier to re-strengthen the temple and the village. Prime Minister further stated that there exists some level of distance between the temple and the village folk; therefore there is a need to materialize the concept of the tank, pagoda, village and the temple. The Dean of Kelaniya Unversity, Rev., Dr. Valamitiyaawe Kusaladhamma, Rev. Divyagala Yasassi, Rev. Brahmanavaththe Seevalee, Rev. Pallegama Hemarathna, reverend monks, were present. 2007
