
Cruise Liner at Hambantota Awaits 2011 Cricket Fans 03 June 2010
(Colombo Lankapuvath June 03) Plans are being drawn to hire a cruise liner in view of the 2011 Cricket world cup fans who will be visiting Hambantota.
Over 1000 rooms in Star class hotels in the area waits cricket fans while the Cruise Line is hired as an added attraction for the games said Sri Lankan World Cup official Suraj Dandeniya.
The cruise will be used mainly as accommodation for the cricket fans while accommodation for cricket teams playing in Hambantota for the World Cup 2011 are also arranged he said.
International Cricket Council rules require each venue to have five-star facilities to accommodate between 500 to 1,000 individuals including players, officials, media and fans.
Two matches are scheduled to be played at the newly built Suriyawewa Stadium in Hambantota which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 6 million. The first match scheduled to be played at Hambantota is between Sri Lanka and Canada while the other match is between Pakistan and Kenya.
India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are the co-hosts of the 2011 world Cup while Sri Lanka will host 12 matches which will be played in Hambantota, Pallakele, and Colombo. The finals of the Gala 14 nation tournament held every four years will be held in India.
