
Japan Provides Further Humanitarian Assistance To IDPs in Sri Lanka 01 June 2010
(Colombo, Lankapuvath, June 01) - The Government of Japan recently decided to extend a financial contribution of 100 million Japanese Yen (approximately 1.1 million US dollars) through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees in Sri Lanka.
Japan’s overall assistance to Sri Lanka has covered a wide range of the areas to promote development and has continuously addressed humanitarian needs as well. Japan has contributed a sum of approximately 40 million US dollars since 2009 to support humanitarian activities of the Government of Sri Lanka directly or through international agencies, local and international NGOs.
The Embassy of Japan will continue its proactive support for the recovery and development of Sri Lanka in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka as well as the international community.
