9th Conference of the Asia Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production (APRSCP) - June 10 - 12, 2010, Colombo

Asia and Pacific has the fastest growing economy in the world and accommodates majority of the world population. One the one hand the ever-increasing wealth and lifestyle changes resulting from this growth is placing a heavy burden on the regions resources. On the other hand the region is forced to deal with global challenges such as pollution, poverty and economic meltdown. Within such conditions Sustainable Development is in danger of fast becoming an unapproachable goal. Therefore Sustainable Consumption and Production should be given importance as a driving force to ensure that the special development needs of the region are met in a sustainable manner.

Sustainable Development requires novel thinking, innovative technologies and systems as well as new partnerships that link members of the region and extend beyond so as to forge a firm and lasting framework to achieve sustainability.

The Asia Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production was formed in 1997 to foster dialog and partnerships between industry, governments, academia and non-governmental organizations in the region. It focuses on finding solutions to address regional and global issues such as pollution, over consumption and unsustainable development. APRSCP has held 8 roundtables within the region to date and has built up a strong network covering the entire Asia Pacific region.

The 9th APRSCP in Colombo will provide participants with the unique opportunity hear regional and global experts present their views on topics of importance to the Asia Pacific Region in context to global challenges. It will provide a suitable platform to discuss and debate solution to meet these global challenges and accelerate the shift towards Sustainable Growth
